There are three placements that reliably look right. All of them share the same goal: your feet meet the rug the instant you rise.
- All under, with overhang. The whole bed sits on the rug, which extends 18–24 inches past the sides and foot. This is the most luxurious look and suits a large rug in a spacious room — the rug reads as the floor of the sleeping zone.

Placement options if your rug is too small
If the rug you love is smaller than the ideal size, you still have good options rather than settling for a floating mat.
- Turn it sideways at the foot. A rug run widthways across the lower quarter of the bed, extending past both sides, gives a soft landing without pretending to be a full underlay.

But be careful with the word silk: much of the “silk” sold for bedrooms is actually viscose — a plant-based fibre that mimics silk's sheen but crushes, water-marks and wears far faster.
