Rug Restoration

Houston · Restored by hand

A worn or damaged rug is rarely beyond saving. In our Houston workshop, the Malik family — three generations of weavers — clean, repair, and reweave hand-knotted rugs by hand, the same way they were made. We restore the rugs we sell and the ones you already own.

Flood- or water-damaged rug?

Houston floods, and water damage means dye bleed, mildew, and a foundation that can rot. We dry, treat, and rebuild by hand — but the sooner we see it, the more we save. See our flood & water-damage rescue →

What we restore

Every rug is assessed individually — these are the repairs we handle most.

Reweaving

Holes, rips, tears, and worn areas rewoven by hand, knot by knot, to match the original pattern and pile.

Fringe & edges

Re-fringing, and repair of frayed sides, selvages, and corners — restoring the foundation, not just the look.

Re-stretching & reshaping

Rugs that have buckled, curled, or gone out of square, blocked and reshaped to lie flat again.

Color & area restoration

Faded or damaged areas carefully restored so the repair disappears into the whole.

Moth & pet damage

Treatment and reweaving of areas lost to moths or pets, returning strength to the foundation.

Water & flood damage

Drying, cleaning, dye-bleed correction, and structural repair after water or flood damage.

How it works

Four steps, all by hand, all in Houston.

01

Assess

We inspect the rug, identify the cause, and give you an honest estimate and timeline — free.

02

Hand-wash

A gentle hand-wash first, so every repair is done on a clean, stable foundation.

03

Repair & reweave

Our artisans reweave, re-fringe, and rebuild by hand — matching the knot, the wool, and the dye.

04

Finish & return

A final inspection, then your rug is rolled and returned — local pickup & delivery available.

Why bring it to Arteverk

  • Genuine weavers, not a cleaning franchise. The Malik family has sourced, commissioned, and repaired hand-knotted rugs for three generations. Your rug is restored by people who know how it was made.
  • Everything by hand, in Houston. No machine or steam process meant for wall-to-wall carpet. Hand-washing and hand-reweaving, in our own workshop.
  • An honest assessment. If a repair isn't worth the cost — or a rug is better left as it is — we'll tell you. We'd rather keep your trust than sell you a service.
  • Any rug, any maker. Antique Persian, vintage Oriental, modern hand-knotted — bought from us or anywhere else.

Bring your rug back to life

Free assessment, honest estimate, no obligation.

Common questions

Do you restore rugs I didn't buy from Arteverk?

Yes. We restore any hand-knotted rug — antique, vintage, or modern — regardless of where it came from.

Can you restore a flood- or water-damaged rug?

Often, yes — if we reach it in time. Water damage can rot the foundation and bleed the dyes, so speed matters. See our dedicated flood & water-damage rescue.

How much does restoration cost?

It depends entirely on the rug and the work involved, which is why the assessment is free. Bring it in or email a few photos and we'll give you an honest estimate before any work begins.

How long does it take?

Simple repairs can be quick; full reweaving of an antique can take weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeline with your estimate.

Can you really make it look new?

Often the repair becomes invisible — but we'll always be honest about what's achievable for your specific piece before we start. A century-old rug should still look loved, not factory-fresh.

Do you offer pickup and delivery?

Yes, locally in the Houston area. Ask us when you book.

Restoration pairs naturally with a hand-wash — see our rug cleaning and flood & water-damage services, or contact us for an assessment. We also collect and return in Sugar Land, Missouri City and Stafford. We also collect and return in Spring, Klein and north Houston.

Rug restoration

We will tell you honestly whether it is worth doing.

Reweaving, binding, resizing and water-damage recovery — on rugs of any origin.

  • Send photos first — of the damage and of the back. The back tells us the most.
  • An honest assessment — including when a repair costs more than the rug is worth.
