• 5x7 / 6x9 — a small living room, or a rug that sits under a coffee table only
• 8x10 — the most common living room size; front legs of sofa and chairs on the wool
• 9x12 — a generous room, or all four legs of the sofa on the rug
• 10x14 and 12x15 — large living rooms and open-plan spaces
• 12x18 and oversize — great rooms, double-height spaces and long open plans
