The Piece

A geometry only the old looms still remember.

Afghanistan is the country where Shaal carpets, a type of oriental rug, are produced. They are renowned for their intricate designs, hand-spun wool, and use of natural vegetable dyes. A variety of oriental designs, including Persian flower patterns, tree of life patterns and garden themes, are the inspiration for shaal carpets. They frequently have colorful, wool-wrapped tassels and are typically woven in an Afghani weave. Along with their distinctive vertical stripes, Shaal carpets stand out from Khurjeen rugs with their horizontal patterns.

A note on character

Faint creases from transit are normal and relax within a few days of lying flat. Slight irregularities in line and color are the signature of a hand-knotted piece — not flaws, but the fingerprints of the person who made it.
