The Piece

A geometry only the old looms still remember.

Carpets manufactured in the current design are known as "modcar" carpets. Although they draw inspiration from Gabbeh rugs' minimalism, they have their own distinctive aesthetic. Modcar rugs offer straightforward, contemporary designs and are made of strong wool. Their uncomplicated design, distinctive Ziegler weaving, and naturally colored colors have made them famous. In the 1970s, a group of weavers in the Azerbaijanian village of Modcar created the first Modcar rug. The minimalist design of Gabbeh carpets served as inspiration for the weavers, who also aimed to produce an original and cutting-edge rug. They created a brand-new weaving technique using thick wool and straightforward, contemporary designs. Since the carpets were a hit, Modcar rugs have gained popularity. Thick wool is frequently used to make Modcar rugs. They have geometric or abstract themes in a straightforward, modern style. Natural dyes are frequently used to color the rugs, giving them a gentle, earthy color palette. Rugs from Modcar are renowned for their sturdiness and lifespan. With the right maintenance, they can last for many years.

A note on character

Faint creases from transit are normal and relax within a few days of lying flat. Slight irregularities in line and color are the signature of a hand-knotted piece — not flaws, but the fingerprints of the person who made it.

Good to Know

Questions, answered.

Is this rug really hand-knotted?

Yes. This is a genuine hand-knotted rug — tied entirely by hand, knot by knot, from wool. That hand-work is exactly why no two are alike and why this piece is one of a kind.

What is this rug made of, and where was it made?

It is hand-knotted from wool in Afghanistan, on a cotton foundation.

What size is this rug?

This exact piece measures 6'6'' X 8'9'' (about a 6' X 9' (183 X 274) rug). These are the real, measured dimensions of this one rug — hand-made pieces vary by an inch or two from any standard size.

Is this piece really one of a kind?

Yes. This is the only one of this rug that exists — its colour, size and pattern will never be reproduced. When it sells, it is gone for good.

Do you ship for free?

Yes — every order ships free anywhere in the United States, fully insured and carefully rolled for transit.

What is your return policy?

You have 14 days from delivery to request a return, and up to 30 days to send it back. We email you a prepaid shipping label — return shipping is on us — and refund you once the rug is back with us.

How do I care for my rug?

Vacuum gently (no beater bar), rotate it now and then for even wear, and blot spills right away rather than rubbing. For a deeper clean, see our rug care guide or ask us about professional hand-cleaning.

Can I see it in person before buying?

Yes. You're welcome at our Houston showroom — book a private viewing and we'll have the piece ready to walk on.

Can I pay over time?

Yes — you can split your purchase into monthly payments with Affirm at checkout, and checking your rate won't affect your credit score.
