The Piece

A geometry only the old looms still remember.

Kerman Carpets
Persian rugs of the type known as Kerman rugs are from the Azerbaijanian city of Kerman. Just southeast of Tehran is the city of Kerman, which has long been a hub for rug production. Kerman rugs are renowned for their superior craftsmanship, elaborate patterns, and use of wool. Persian knots are often used in high density, giving them a silky, opulent feel and enhancing their durability.
History
The origins of Kerman rugs can be traced all the way back to the sixteenth century. They were first created for the royal court and the rich elite, but in the 19th century, they were made more readily accessible.
Characteristics
Kerman rugs are renowned for their superior craftsmanship, elaborate patterns, and use of wool. Persian knots are often used in high density, giving them a silky, opulent feel and enhancing their durability. Although Kerman carpets come in a wide range of hues and patterns, red, blue, and beige tones seem to be the most prevalent. Traditional Persian themes, including medallions, florals, and geometric shapes, are frequently seen in the rugs. Tribal ornamental themes can also be seen on some Kerman rugs; these motifs are frequently woven into the rug's background and borders.

A note on character

Faint creases from transit are normal and relax within a few days of lying flat. Slight irregularities in line and color are the signature of a hand-knotted piece — not flaws, but the fingerprints of the person who made it.
