An Onyx rug is a hand-knotted wool rug that is hand-oxidized to carve a high-and-low pile texture, then recolored in a process similar to overdyeing — sometimes a single moody tone, sometimes a blend of more than one color. The result is a unique, eclectic piece with a sculpted surface and rich, saturated color — charcoal, ink and indigo blue, teal, purple, grey or blended multi-color — that catches the light and reads almost like contemporary art for the floor. Its distinguishing trait is that carved texture: a depth a flat rug simply can't offer. Here is how it's made: each rug is first hand-knotted in wool in Afghanistan in a classic design (often a Tabriz, Farhan or Haji-Jalili pattern), then transformed by hand in our family's own Lahore workshop. Then, in our Lahore workshop, two things happen by hand. First, a hand-oxidation process carves the pile into high and low areas — sculpting a three-dimensional, textured surface that catches the light and gives the rug real depth. Second, a recoloring process similar to overdyeing washes the whole rug in rich color — sometimes a single moody tone, sometimes a blend of more than one.
The combination is what makes Onyx so striking and so eclectic: a sculpted, tactile surface and saturated, often unexpected color, in a piece that is genuinely one of a kind. It is the rug for someone who wants their floor to be a statement.

Caring for an Onyx rug
A hand-oxidized, recolored wool Onyx ages well with gentle care: vacuum softly with the pile (no aggressive beater bar on the carved surface), rotate twice a year, use a rug pad, and blot spills immediately rather than rubbing.
