Washed, not shampooed
A hand-knotted rug is laundered, not run through carpet equipment. Most of the soil comes out dry before any water touches it, the dyes are tested before the rug is wet, and the wash is matched to the fibre.
Why humidity matters here
Gulf Coast damp is the reason pet odour returns and mould takes hold in a rug that felt dry. Salt left in the foundation pulls moisture from the air; mould feeds on the wool itself. Both need full immersion, not a surface clean.
Repair by hand
Fringe and selvedge rebuilding, reweaving holes, moth and pet damage, and resizing a rug to fit the room you actually have. Done by hand, in wool matched to the original where we can.
Antique and heirloom pieces
Older rugs get assessed before anything is committed to. We will tell you honestly when a rug is not worth the cost of the work — and when it is worth considerably more than you thought.
Water and flood damage
A soaked rug is time-critical: wool left wet grows mould and the dyes migrate into each other. We dry, decontaminate and wash, and provide documentation for insurance.

How long does cleaning or repair take?
A straightforward hand-wash is usually a week to ten days, because the drying is controlled and cannot be rushed — that is when most damage to a rug happens. What does it cost?
Cleaning is priced by size and construction, repair by the work involved. Send photographs and the measurements and you get a quote before anything is collected. We would rather turn a rug away than take money for work that will not improve it.
Can you clean a viscose or art-silk rug?
Yes, but not the way wool is cleaned. Viscose is wood pulp, and wetting it the ordinary way flattens the pile into permanent grey patching. It needs a different method than most carpet cleaners use, which is why viscose rugs so often come to us already damaged.
Why does pet urine keep coming back in Houston humidity?
Because the stain, the odour and the salt in the foundation are three separate problems. Surface and steam cleaning reach the first. The crystalline salt left deep in the foundation draws moisture out of Gulf Coast humidity and reactivates the smell every time the room gets damp. Only full immersion washing removes it.
Do you repair fringe, or just trim it?
We rebuild it. Fringe is the warp the rug is knotted onto, so damage there is structural rather than cosmetic — once the ends unravel, the nearest knots have nothing anchoring them and the loss spreads inward. Trimming hides it and lets it continue.
