Rug Cutting, Binding & Resizing

Houston · Cut, bound & resized by hand

A rug that's the wrong size for your room, or frayed at the edges, doesn't have to be the wrong rug. In our Houston workshop, the Malik family cuts, resizes, binds, and repairs rugs by hand so they fit your space and last for years. We'll also tell you honestly when a piece is better left whole.

Water- or flood-damaged rug?

Houston floods, and water damage often means rotted foundation and frayed, weakened edges. We rebuild and rebind by hand — but act fast. See our flood & water-damage rescue →

What we do

Precise alterations and repairs that preserve the rug's integrity.

Custom cutting & resizing

Trim an oversized rug or shape one to an unconventional space, then re-finish the edges so it looks original.

Binding & edge finishing

Secure and finish raw or worn edges — from a clean, subtle binding to a more decorative border.

Fringe repair

Repair or replace damaged fringe — and remember, on a hand-knotted rug the fringe is structural, not decoration.

Holes, rips & tears

Reweaving by hand to close holes and tears, returning strength and pattern to the damaged area.

Pet & moth damage

Repair and reweaving of areas chewed, clawed, or eaten away, with treatment to stop it recurring.

Re-stretching & reshaping

Flatten a buckled or curling rug and bring one that's gone out of square back to true.

Why bring it to Arteverk

  • Done by weavers, by hand. Cutting and binding a hand-knotted rug well takes someone who understands its structure — three generations of the Malik family do.
  • Honest about value. Cutting a fine antique can reduce its worth. If resizing isn't right for your piece, we'll say so — and suggest an alternative.
  • Invisible finishes. Our goal is a re-edge or repair you'd never know was there.
  • Any rug, any maker. Handmade or machine-made, bought from us or anywhere else.

Make it fit your space

Free quote, honest advice, by hand.

Common questions

Can you cut down an oversized rug to fit my room?

Usually, yes — we cut it to your dimensions and re-finish the edges so it looks original. We'll confirm it's a good candidate first.

Will cutting ruin the rug's value?

For most rugs, no — but cutting a rare or antique piece can reduce its worth. We'll tell you honestly before you decide, and never cut a piece we think you'd regret.

What binding options do you offer?

From a clean, subtle cloth or serged binding to a more decorative border — we'll match it to your rug and your taste.

Can you fix moth holes or pet damage?

Yes. We reweave moth holes, chewed corners, and worn or damaged areas by hand, and treat the rug to stop the damage recurring.

Do you work on rugs I didn't buy from Arteverk?

Yes — handmade or machine-made, from any source.

Do you offer pickup and delivery?

Yes, locally in the Houston area. Ask us when you book.
